When I got a text from HB this week saying, "Call me I have something to tell you." I had to normal (it is normal right?) gut twisting reaction. "Oh no, what happened," was about the only line that ran through my head.
Of course when I called HB was excited. He'd been offered a job, a job that he wanted and we were hoping to hear about in late April at the earliest. Time to celebrate!
Now you might remember that last week I talked about how I am going to pare back because my life has gotten a little too full and I'm not able to enjoy the things I am doing because I'm always so busy thinking about what I need to do next. So I took my own advice and thought about my tips for having a handmade plan in place.
It occurred to me that these past few posts might feel staged. But no, I promise you it's all been falling into place this way. Those posts on paring back and handmade tips were written and scheduled before I had any clue that HB had gotten the job. And my crazy schedule for the week was set before I decided to pare back. So this is what happened...
Wednesday I got the fantastic news that HB landed the job. We planned to celebrate on Friday evening so I had Wednesday night, Thursday evening, and about two hours Friday afternoon to prep.
Wednesday I found the recipe I wanted to make for our celebratory dinner during my lunch break. I checked all of my favorite go to places for gluten free recipes and found this Enchilada bake.
Wednesday evening I spent the night in the vet's office with Zeus (a cat). The short version of this story is that he is fine, has a new prescription, and that we didn't get home until nearly 9:00 PM.
Thursday evening was chaotic. Dad was teaching me a bit about product photography before I had to rush to my computer at 9:00 for another meeting with the Golden Tribe. Both were tons of fun and very inspirational, but I didn't have a lot of time leftover to plan HB's special celebration.
Friday I left work at noon to volunteer at the UrbanPromise library. After cleaning up I managed a very quick trip to the grocery store - picking up the few ingredients I was missing for dinner. At home I packed my weekend bag, grabbed a bottle of bubbly, and headed out the door.
Friday night was special because HB and I made it special. Although making dinner was supposed to be my treat to him, HB ended up helping me cook in his very tiny kitchen. We got in each other's way and laughed at ourselves until everything was finally in the oven and we could pop the cork on the champagne.
I may not have written as many blog posts this week, finished as many new crochet projects, or set the table especially for our Friday night dinner with a special banner, new napkins I'd made myself, and a handmade card, but we did enjoy every minute of our meal and that is our version of handmade happiness.
